Scaling form 7 to 8 figures with an SEO agency, whilst staying lean and profitable requires a few fundamental shifts:

Productisation
If you don’t have a set of processes for every service you deliver, this cannot scale. Think McDonalds. Not ‘cheap fast food’, but repeatable, identical, scalable processes across thousands of different operations all over the world. This often means not doing ‘everything for everyone’ and doing a set ‘menu’ of services and presenting them to a target market.

Niching down
Niching down can feel like minimising your market, and this can sometimes be true. If you niche down to ‘Padel court marketing’ or something silly, you are reducing your TAM to something that couldn’t get to 8 figures. Niching down to Lawyers, Dentists, Agencies, Schools, etc is a different story. Always check the TAM, here’s how.

Lean Mindset
If you’re around long enough, you get to battle through economic or indsutry storms. Hello recession, covid, AI, etc. Keeping a lean team of operators and relying heavily on contractors and vendors will not only make you more profitable, but also more lean and antifragile.

Repeatable & Consistent Client Acquisition
Clients are the lifeblood of an agency and without a repeatable & consistent acquisition strategy, the ‘referral’ pipeline so many agencies rely on may run dry. Creating a sustainable funnel and running ads to it seems to be the most consistent way I’ve found.

Build a Brand
Building a memorable brand that is defined by it’s core values is key to shining in a huge sea of agencies. Agencies tend to be boring, stand out, have a crazy name, go above and beyond, have a contrarian offer. Off the top of my head, all PPC agencies charge 10% of spend - do a flat rate instead - and give all the reasons why this is better - this alone is something that stands out.
