When we ran an agency we used to think of our competition as other agencies.
We tried to compete on what we’d do.
Results we’d get.
Deliverables, consulting hours, price and more.
What we didn’t realise is that our competition wasn’t other agencies.
Our competition was the agency deciding to hire in-house for SEO.
You see, case studies and your offering are important.
But businesses looking to hire an agency want to know why it’s a better option than hiring inhouse.
Think about it. Hiring an SEO is probably more expensive than hiring inhouse. So the agency needs to be sold on this element too.
I don’t see many agencies talking about this on their website, but it should be front and centre in sales material and sales calls.
Here are some of the things you can talk about:
Hiring your agency means they won’t have to go our and find SEO talent (hard to do in a lot of areas/countries)
Hiring your agency means they can have an ‘inhouse’ like team on demand (without having to build the team). They can join your slack or messaging channels and be on call.
Hiring your agency means they wont have to worry about track records from inhouse hires. You have all the case studies available.
Hiring your agency means they can leverage your existing processes and SOPs, not need to build them out from scratch.
Hiring your agency means they can leverage your SEO assets, connections, software, skills, without having to buy or earn it themselves.
Hiring your agency means they won’t have to deal with any HR stuff, sickness, leaves, performance for individuals - it’s all centralised through the agency contract.
Hiring your agency means they won’t have to increase overheads, buy more desks, equipment, more office space etc.
These are a few of the reasons but I could go on.
Think about how you can incorporate this kind of messaging into your agency website and into your sales pitch. It’s an often overlooked selling point of why they should choose your agency.
The more you position yourself as the better choice between inhouse and agency, the better!
